Keep in mind that you can use instructions 1 above for night training babies in the same room, and instructions 2 for daytime nap training babies in two separate rooms (which is my preferred way to handle nighttime and daytime training for twins).
Twins usually do very well with sleep training because not only are they accustomed to sharing space with their siblings, but because they seem to acclimate quickly to their sibling’s cries. Time and again, I see twins sleeping deeply through their brother or sister wailing. Remain hyper-consistent, and make sure that above all else you focus on each child falling asleep completely on their own.
Common Issues That Arise During Nighttime Sleep Training
Here are the most commonly asked questions and the most frequently encountered issues families face during sleep training, and how to deal with each one.
My baby is flipping to their belly and can’t flip back over. This is one of the questions that needs to be discussed with your pediatrician before you start training. I can almost guarantee you this issue will come up, and no one is better qualified to advise you than your doctor. Having said that, the American Academy of Pediatrics says that if your child is able to roll in both directions (back to stomach and stomach to back), it is acceptable to allow them to stay on their bellies if they roll there on their own. However, a vast majority of babies master the skill of rolling from back to belly months before they master flipping from belly to back, so it is imperative you follow your doctor’s advice in this area.
